U.S. action in Iran is imminent. Here's the update.
The brave Iranian people have risen against their Islamist occupiers, the brutal regime created in 1979 by the Ayatollah Khomeini. For 47 years, the mullahs have oppressed what was once the most modern country in the Middle East: a key U.S. ally, a bulwark against the Soviets, even a friend to Israel, with a growing middle class and educated, fashionable, free women.
Now women live behind a burkha. They face the death penalty for being raped. And an estimated 30,000 unarmed protestors are dead just since December 28th.
President Trump has promised that "Help is on the way!" The USS Abraham Lincoln's CSG is already on station. Countless military transports — U.S. and allied — are flying equipment into the region. And this morning, as I've been telling you would happen, it was announced that the USS Gerald R. Ford CSG is being re-deployed from the Venezuelan coast to the Persian Gulf.
A single U.S. carrier has enough firepower to defeat nearly any other country's entire air force. Two is...a lot. The President has demanded the War Dept. draw up plans for a "decisive" campaign. "Decisive" means "decapitation", and this time the boots on the ground are not U.S. servicemen, but the brave Iranians already in the streets.
Trump's team is talking to the Iranians. But the deal is a non-starter, and he knows it: he just needs time to get the necessary forces in position. Trump's deal points are:
A verifiable, permanent end to all uranium enrichment and Iran's entire nuclear weapons program.
Strict limits on Iran's ballistic missiles. And
An end to Iran's support for its regional proxies: terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, & the Houthis.
It's not just that the Iranians will never agree to this. The Iranians, even now, refuse to discuss any of this. But they are in the room...stalling. Trump warned this morning that failure to reach agreement will be "very traumatic" for the regime. They ought to take the deal, but they won't.
Meanwhile, Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi is at the Munich Security Conference. Last year, the mullahs blocked his presence; this year, they're the ones who are out, and he's meeting with U.S. Senators and European defense ministers.
The Lion and Sun Revolution is real. With the help that's on the way, Reza Pahlavi will usher in a transitional government like Juan Carlos in Spain after Franco, creating the European-style constitutional monarchy that was emerging before Jimmy Carter sold everyone out.
A lot of blood will be spilled between here and there. But the liberation is coming.
