Yet another segment I would’ve responded to earlier if not for the glitches of the app. In any case, this was a tremendous segment with Dr. Martin hosted by Frank Gaffney on Securing America. Yesterday 37 years ago, the infamous Tiananmen Square Massacre took place in 1989. The protestors sought to liberalize the Chinese government and for China to become a republic like the United States. The protestors in homage to their American brothers on the other side of the world, erected their own Statue of Liberty. Sadly, it was not to be. The Chinese government declared martial law and sent in the army to crackdown on the protests. They did so brutally killing we think about 2,700 people. The protest leaders and pro-democracy activists were all exiled or imprisoned. The Chinese government all cracked down on those protesting the regime more broadly across the nation.
Deng Xiaoping made many beneficial economic reforms in China. But it must never be forgotten that he was a brutal dictator. The West’s subsequent embrace of Communist China was a disaster for the whole world. The United States absolutely coddled China. George H.W. Bush’s NSA Advisor Brent Scowcroft brilliant as he may have been, made the serious mistake of saying America should continue to engage with China despite what they did in Tiananmen Square. This is because Scowcroft and others who followed him thought that China’s economic integration would encourage political reforms and lead to it become a responsible stakeholder in the international community. This did not happen! Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden all were soft on China. Clinton was the one who got all that started. After George H.W. Bush blew the 1992 election to him, Bill Clinton gave China everything they wanted and could ever have dreamed of. They would immediately proceed to continue to be a brutal fascist authoritarian state and broke all the WTO’s rules upon joining it. They cheated America on trade for decades until Donald Trump came in and put a stop to it.
Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger engaged with China but were careful how they did so. Their embrace of China was limited and conditional and was done in order to play them off against the Soviets. Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Biden embraced China fully and unconditionally and look where that got us. Scott Bessent is looking to undermine the yuan and facilitate the CCP’s collapse. Trump’s first term cabinet sucked but his second term cabinet has been amazing. Bessent is one of Trump’s best. He and the President are quietly seeking to undermine the Chinese economy and push the CCP off a cliff. A brilliant Treasury Secretary, he has been. Ronald Reagan worked to put the USSR out of business and succeeded and Trump and Bessent are doing the same thing with Communist China.
