The very first question in the Bible does not come from God, Adam, or Eve. It comes from the serpent, a deceptive, leading question, designed to reframe reality before Eve ever answers.
Discernment seems to be at an all time low in "christianity" today. The prophets tell lies, the priests rule on their own authority and the people like it. Theater, imagination and feelings guide the people today because the pastors have introduced these practices and teachings. What a fearfull "terriffying" thing to fall into the hands of the living "angery" God. But what will you do in the end? Just sayin.
In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, I once against present a list of American history books. I must say I never get tired of making these lists because it seems to me very few people actually know American history:

I would add a fantastic piece of history by T.R. Fehrenbach - "This Kind of War". It is ostensibly "just" a history of the Korean War, but it provides depths of context as to post-WWII international and domestic politics, economics, the imminent Marxist march through the institutions, the modernist and post-modernist assault on traditional Western values. Every societal factor which created the world in which Korea occurred.
Just an omnibus of history and philosophy. It is in my "reread every year or so" pile.
Not least the highly effective propaganda favoring Mao and undermining our allied Chinese government such that Truman increasingly withdrew support and the Communists were successful. There would have been no Korea -- and no Vietnam, and no current threat to Taiwan -- but for that influence op.
The serpent presumed God guilty, with the goal of controlling us by the same method/perspective. It is the mystery of iniquity at work in the world. The only solution is to know, by simple Trust, Jesus Christ, born of the woman’s seed, to restore our presumed innocence/righteousness purchased on Calvary.
