Copenhagen took Greenlanders’ children, violated their bodies, and forfeited any right to rule their distant colony. Greenlanders want independence, but can’t afford it. There’s a solution.
Ironically, this is getting a lot more attention in Denmark, the country that perpetrated these crimes, than in the U.S., which wants everyone to believe that anyone who dislikes Trump is flawless and pure.
Thank you, Dr. Martin for writing a most important article for all of humanity! The world must know what went on in Greenland for decades! Denmark committed crimes against humanity against the Indigenous women of Greenland. Inserting IUDs inside them in most cases without their knowledge, gave them unwanted contraceptive injections and performed operations on them to remove their fallopian tubes. It doesn’t quite rise to the level of genocide. But it was a monstrous and inhumane attempt to control demographics in Greenland so that there would be less Greenlanders and more Danes and it sadly worked. The scale of human tragedy Dr. Martin describes here is simply incomprehensible. The Danes have always treated the people of Greenland horribly and do not consider them human beings. Look don’t get me wrong, I love Denmark, I love the Danish people, I love their culture, food and landscapers, I admire their Viking ancestors, and I revere Danish historical figures like King Harald Bluetooth, Hans Christian Anderson and King Christian X. Also, the nation working together to save their Jewish population during World War II is an incredible story that will never cease to inspire me and see the best in humanity. Not to mention the bravery and the heroism of the Danish Resistance in fighting the Nazi occupation. But all that said, I shutter at and am appalled by what the Danish government did for decades to the Greenlandic people! What is described above is nothing less than Eugenics which continued well into the 21st Century.
It’s simply boggles the mind and shocks the conscience! I weep for Amarok Peterson who demented Danish doctors operated on at the tender age of 13 and cut out her fallopian tubes without her consent. As a result, she was never able to have children. She will never have a family, and she got no say so in it. Nearly one-third of these girls were 14 or younger! One was only 12 years old! You know who else did stuff like this? The Nazis! The Nazis sterilized mixed-race children of black French soldiers and white German women so they couldn’t reproduce and pass on their mixed blood. This isn’t that much different. Of the 410 cases of IUD insertions, 300 of those women said they never consented and they probably were never asked in the first place. These atrocities continued until 1991 when the native Greenlanders finally wrestled control of their healthcare system away from the Colonial Danish authorities. Literally just four years before I was born. All these teen girls were sent home in pain and not understanding that had just happened. Some started bleeding everywhere, some developed infections, some suffered lasting physical and psychological damage, and some lost the ability to bear children even after they figured out what was wrong with them. It is a tale of the darker impulses within humanity and what happens when they are allowed to fester. This is like the book Frankenstein in real life! This is what happens when men play God, the results are monstrous and horrific! On top that, the Danes would take the children of Greenlandic children based on Danish cultural standards not Greenlandic cultural standards. Based on this completely flawed criteria that did not take into account the great cultural differences between the two peoples, countless Greenlandic children were taken from their parents and adopted out to Danish families and their biological patents were deemed unfit and bad parents who didn’t love their children or take care of them properly. The United States and Australia did things similar to this to the Native Americans and Aboriginal Australians respectively. The difference is we realized it was wrong and immoral and stopped doing it and took substantive action to remedy this injustice. Denmark just kept right on doing it literally up until 2025. Only last year did they replace the old standardized assessment with a new one performed by a specialized unit with Greenlandic language and cultural competency training. Denmark has never invested a penny in Greenland and has neglected it and left it underdeveloped.
Denmark has rarely acknowledged or apologized for the great harm they caused the Greenlandic people. The Greenlandic people don’t want anything to do with Denmark anymore, and who could blame them? The overwhelming majority of Greenlanders in poll after poll have made it clear they want to be an independent nation. But the thing is they can’t afford it. But there is a solution, that being a compact of free association with the United States. Which is what Donald Trump has been looking for all along. He never wanted to conquer or annex Greenland. That was just him doing what he has done throughout his storied career, starting with the craziest maximalist position and then working his way down to what he really wants. He’s only been writing about it for forty years now! If such a deal is reached, the United States and Greenland will be partners, there will be colonialism here. Greenland can have many of the benefits of sovereignty without the costs. In return, the United States can secure Greenland’s vast mineral wealth for the free world and secure it against Russian or Chinese infiltration. Greenland and its people will become rich and their living standards will be much improved. The United States and the free world will be safer and it will go a long towards ensuring Arctic security which Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Biden paid no attention to. But Trump was wise enough to see its importance. We would NOT be dominating or ruling over the people of Greenland like the Danes did, but rather have the same kind of relationship with them we have with Palau, the Marshall Islands or Micronesia.
