A ring-shaped warp drive device could transport a football-shape starship (center) to effective speeds faster than light. The concept was first proposed by Mexican physicist Miguel Alcubierre.

Space.com reports today not only that Einstein's general relativity may permit FTL (faster than light) travel after all, but that NASA is actively working on it in a laboratory at the Johnson Space Center.

The story is a bit long, but well worth reading to the end.

It should go without saying that, if true, this would be the most revolutionary technological achievement of all time.  It would literally open the universe to us (how far and how fast we could go at first remains unanswered to be sure).  We would face a never-ending frontier, a vast Frederick Jackson Turner-esque dreamscape of possibility and hope.

This is a goal worthy of pursuing, vigorously.  Stay tuned:  you'll be hearing more on this from The Martin Organization soon.
