👏👏👏 An excellent piece by you, Dr. Martin! I’m not a Republican but an Independent. But I voted for Donald Trump for President three times and have never regretted it. To me, Donald Trump is our generations’ Ronald Reagan. He came and restored America after the disaster that was Joe Biden’s train wreck of a presidency, just as Ronald Reagan came and restored America in the 1980s after Jimmy Carter’s presidency totally imploded. I feel optimistic for America’s future for the first time in a while. Donald Trump’s campaign and presidency warts and all, has given me hope. His record as president is not without its blemishes. I don’t agree with everything he’s done by any means. I didn’t agree with him trying to get rid of birthright citizenship, closing the Department of Education, trying to privatize the Postal Service, gutting the U.S. Forest Service, his public statements on the deaths of Rob Reiner and Robert Mueller, firing essential government employees, sending illegal immigrant criminals to dungeons in El Salvador, renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, and his prosecuting Jerome Baker for example. But I approve of most of what he has done. All of these things are valid achievements for Trump and the GOP needs to learn to do good PR and market and sell them to the American people.
His record is overall quite remarkable. President Trump re-industrialized America, revive space exploration, hosted the World Cup successfully, killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and El Mencho, closed the Southern border, has been a staunch friend to Israel, bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities into dust, is thumping the Islamic Republic right now, arrested Nicolas Maduro, took to the Mexican drug cartels, deported over three million illegal immigrants, passed the Laken Riley Act, got TSA workers paid during the government shutdown, cut funding to biased PBS and NPR, pardoned the January 6th protesters, got thousands of jobs back to this country, appointed one of our best Secretaries of State ever, got rid of DEI, banned the barbaric practice of gender-affirming care for minors, banned Trans people in women’s sports, got NATO and the East Asian countries to increase defense spending and the size of their militaries, stopped the flow of fentanyl into the country, rescued American hostages, put the screws to Communist Cuba, got Canada and Mexico to stop ripping us off on trade, revived and modernized the Monroe Doctrine, rolled back Russia and China, and negotiated eight peace treaties. That’s just to name a FEW! The Democrats are toast in November! Go ahead and rub progressives and leftists and see how that works out for you!
I was a die hard Trump fan until he broke his promise about no new forever wars and ending the Ukraine war. Certainly, at least 20 of your listed achievements are outstanding, but some are not really achieved. Don’t get me wrong, he is better than any democrat and I would vote for him over Kmala again but my disappointment and disillusionment with his promising ending wars is palpable.
Trump didn't start a forever war with Iran. He's ending a forever war with Iran. You clearly didn't mind when he did exactly the same thing to ISIS. He told you exactly what he was going to do and demonstrated it repeatedly in his first term.
As to Ukraine, he's done more to end that conflict than anyone else on Earth, and he's ended eight other wars no one else even tried to conclude. One of those ran for 40 years, another one for 51. And yet none of that counts?
Conservatives have to stop thinking that one man can solve 100% of the problems they choose to care about in just a year and a half. It's silly. Magical thinking. And he's accomplished more in that year and a half than any other President ever has in four. More than many did in eight.
IMHO the current regime in Iran is very evil and is a direct result of interference by the CIA by overthrowing and legitimately elected government and replacing it with the Shah. The forever war against said regime has no intention of addressing the root cause, which is an unaccountable agency (the CIA) which took over complete control of our country when they (probably) killed JFK. Without eliminating the root cause future similar problems will continue to occur. Furthermore, attempting military action by a military that is built to make the MIC rich instead of creating effective weapons against an adversary (Iran) who has been preparing truly effective weapons and strategy for many decades is either extremely foolish by someone who should know better or a deliberate folly for a foreign country (or the super wealthy Americans who support said foreign country). I am not amused 😒
Well, I must respectfully begin by noting that in 1953 when we correctly removed the Communist Mosaddegh, a would-be Soviet puppet taking over THE key regional ally and satelliting Iran in the manner of Poland and Czechoslovakia, we had just finished stopping the Communist insurgencies in Greece and Turkey, we were close to the end of the Communist invasion of South Korea, we were just three years from the fall of China to Mao, and five years from the consolidation of Soviet power over half of Europe. Also, the Soviets had just detonated their first H-bomb. Context matters.
So sorry, not sorry. This was one of the best things we ever did.
The Shah was a liberalizing force. His biggest mistake was trusting Jimmy Carter. His second biggest mistake was not arresting and executing more of the rapists and murderers who overthrew him. Iran would be a peaceful, secular, First World country today if we'd never elected the peanut farmer from Plains, and Iran's government wouldn't be in the business of executing teenage girls for GETTING raped.
Did the CIA kill JFK? Maybe. This is Roger Stone's birthday, so it's worth noting that he wrote a fascinating book on why he believes LBJ arranged the assassination. I don't know if I agree, but I certainly agree with your assessment that the Intelligence Community was tasked with overthrowing foreign governments -- sometimes necessary, as in the case of the execrable Mosaddegh -- but that inevitably was going to utilize those skills at home, and it has. JFK probably, Nixon certainly, and the entire Russia Hoax, plus the IC's ability to blackmail every elected or unelected official it chooses, is an absolute disaster. I am grateful that Trump understands it and is taking it on, but we have a long way to go.
As to our weaponry in Iran, it has been shockingly effective, but Trump was vocal from the first: we're not invading, so if you guys want to overthrow the regime, you're going to have to step up and be the boots on the ground. The blockade is achieving the preconditions: at some point if you can't pay your troops bad things happen. And we can keep this up as long as necessary.
Meanwhile, Lockheed, Anduril, and Raytheon (among others) have all received contracts to produce more missiles than anyone's ever seen. Last year, Raytheon produced 60 Tomahawk missiles. Next year it will produce 1,000, with greater production each year thereafter. And Tomahawks are the least of it. We aren't even using ATACMS anymore: they are now export-only, replaced here at home with PRSMs that are better, cheaper, and two-to-a-HIMARS cell instead of one. Completely game-changing. That's before we even talk about directed-energy.
The Washington Post wants us to believe we're running out of missiles. Bunk. We aren't increasing the defense budget by 50% in one year so we can continue the status quo. We're using up the old stuff and replacing it with better, and not just better: radically more of it.
Mere survival is not an Iranian win. That's ridiculous. One might as well say that Germany survived World War II, or England won the Hundred Years' War. But my guess is, they won't actually survive. Ditto for the Cuban regime. It's over.
