"Birthright citizenship" isn't required by the Constitution, no matter how many pundits tell you otherwise. Now, the Supreme Court is about to decide the matter once and for all.
Another great article Rod. Thank God for President Trump. The question is, where have the Republican congressman and presidents been for the last 30 years on this issue. But I think we know. They either only care about money, or they’re working for the other team.
This had become conventional wisdom. Everybody just "knew" that birthright citizenship was required by the 14th Amendment. No one questioned it or thought to question it.
That is the beauty of Donald Trump. He questions everything. And suddenly, we can actually have the discussion.
If Congress wants to enact birthright citizenship, nothing in this argument prevents that. But the Constitution simply does not say it. And its time we stopped pretending the Constitution says things that it doesn't.
I believe the Trump Administration is something like 21 for 23 at the Supreme Court! It shows how much the court has been transformed as well as how radical the lower courts are.
This is the reason everyone hates lawyers. They twist words into a jumbled meaningless mess. This is also why people hate lawmakers. They intentionally use vague words leading to situations like this guaranteeing that abuses will occur. In the end the citizens lose. I get that the founding fathers wanted to slow things down so calmer heads could prevail but people are really tired of every single thing turning into multiple lawsuits and nothing ever gets fixed.
