Excellent discussion on a complicated topic. Seems also that without transparency in pricing to spur competition among medical providers, there’s little affordability incentive.
Bingo! This is why every area of healthcare that IS transparently priced and ISN'T covered by these insurance plans drops in price and rises in quality year after year. Obvious example: cosmetic surgery.
Ahhh, the Obamacare/Healthcare debate rages on with no real solutions - only tweaks. Here's my thoughts on a move toward's a solution - President Trump already threw out a trial balloon.
1. MAHA - I don't know enough to elaborate, but let's empower that team to do big things
2. Health Savings Accounts for Everyone. Funded by either/and:
a. Tax free individual contributions
b. Tax free employer contributions
c. Government subsidies for Medicaid, Medicare and lower income people
3. Use HSA to pay insurance premiums, copays, deductibles, OTC drugs
4. Able to buy insurance across state lines or via internet - like car insurance
5. Full price transparency required for doctors, health clinics, hospitals, etc.
I'm sure there is a lot more that can be done, but this is a start.
Thanks. Great suggestions and match some of mine with a pro writer's details! If I had my preference as an individual, I'd rather pay a much lower premium to have a pure catastrophic plan with a yearly cap of $10K. Pay for everything out of pocket until I hit that $10K threshold, then the insurance kicks in. I used to have a high deductible plan before I retired, but the premiums weren't much lower, because they still payed most of the bill for each visit.
It was broken on day one, and the plan was single payer system all along. Without subsides it cannot work, because no one can afford it except congress.

Yes. The idea was to make the system so unsustainable that by the time Hillary took office, people would be clamoring for *anything* to fix it...the answer to which would of course be a complete government takeover.
This is one of the many reasons for their intense hatred for Trump.
It’s time to make people responsible for their health issues, too. Instead of prescribing anti fat shots & surgeries, put people on diet and exercise programs. Maybe make gym memberships prescribed & covered, consults with dieticians. Look at how many health care providers are overweight themselves! Fixing our food supply has to be fixed, and review eligible products covered by SNAP. We have been aiding and supporting unhealthy choices for
