Why on Earth would we let anyone who hates this country come here? It makes no sense at all. The Boston Bombers, the Fort Hood shooter, the terrorists who attacked the conservative protest at Gracie Mansion in NYC, Mahmoud Khalil, and many others should never have been admitted into the U.S. Immigrants in the part were grateful for America’s kindness and generosity and contributed to making America the great nation it is today. Today’s immigrants often despise America, protest it and then expect that America will just grin and bear it. This can’t be tolerated anymore! Then there’s all these protesters waving Mexican and Latin American flags…even though their in the U.S.A. and their fighting to stay here. If you love America you don’t wave the flag of another country. It’s time to reform immigration laws!
The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was a double-edged sword. On the hand, it got rid of discriminatory national origin quotas. But on the other, it got rid of the merit-based immigration system and emphasized family reunification and the need for cheap labor over the common sense requirements immigrants needed to meet. Democrats and liberals soon began to welcome anyone whether they came legally or not or anyone who claimed they just wanted to come here to study. We need immigration reform and we need it NOW! Here is what I propose we do. Look, I’m atypical for Dr. Martin’s audience and not the type of person who you’d expect to agree with this piece. I’m socially liberal and I’m very pro-immigration. I’m all for raising the immigration quota, amnesty and a pathway to citizenship for some illegal immigrants, birthright citizenship, reforming ICE, and starting a temporary worker program. But I also believe that we need to be selective in who we let into the country for our own protection and social cohesion as a nation. Not on the basis of race, color, creed, ethnicity, or national origin but on the basis of values.
I don’t want immigrants or students here in America who hate it. I don’t want folks who have committed crimes in this country. I don’t want Jihadists in this country. I don’t want immigrants who are racist, sexist, antisemitic, or homophobic on our hallowed shores. I don’t want people being allowed to stay even though their visa expired. I don’t want states giving illegal immigrants welfare benefits. Look I get it, everyone has civil liberties and free speech is for everyone. I’m not suggesting let’s snatch people up in the middle of the night and deport them or that we should deport people purely for what they say. But we need to start using common sense and make it the law that if you dislike America you have to go because your a danger to our country and it’s citizens. Yes, those folks should get due process. Yes, they have the right to express that opinion. But we should also have the right to remove them and send them home. A nation has a right to its national security too.
First off, illegal immigrant truckers who can’t speak English should be banned from the road. That’s not safe! A law should be passed barring the states from ever giving any benefits to illegal immigrants. Laws harshly prosecuting businesses for hiring illegal immigrants should be passed as well. Expansion of the border wall should continue. The U.S. Military should remained deployed on the border. Funding for the Border Patrol should be increased. We should retain Remain in Mexico and rapid DNA testing for illegal immigrants. We should hire more immigration lawyers to process people, we don’t have nearly enough. We must institute a merit-based immigration system with an emphasis on high-skilled labor. We should restore all the requirements the 1965 Hart-Cellar Act removed. Critical skills sets, mastery of the English language, high school diplomas, proof of self-support, and knowledge of or familiarity with, the American system will all be front and center once again. We will revamp our vetting process to make it much more thorough. All newcomers must take courses on American values and history. They must then pass a rigorous test on this subject. We will put in place more stringent requirements to get a student visa. Any student involved in anti-American protest will be deported. Universities will be banned from taking gifts from other countries. Universities who fail to protect Jewish students and faculty in contravention of civil rights laws will lose federal funding. All newcomers must sign a declaration agreeing to obey American laws and adopt its values.
