A terrific and comprehensive article by the esteemed James Lindsay! The profit motive is beneficial to everyone involved in a business. Whether it be the CEO, executives, shareholders, employees, or consumers!

Excellent from Mr. Lindsay! He hits on a crucial difference between capitalism and socialism/communism. Profit Motive-->Profits=Wealth Creation. Socialism and communism cannot create wealth; they can only confiscate and redistribute wealth that capitalism created. It's a zero sum game for them: stealing a piece of a static pie, while capitalism grows the pie.

Lindsay didn't mention one similar Amazon feature, that lets them consolidate not packaging but trucking: the offer to let Amazon deliver the product a day or two later in exchange for a dollar or two in digital credit for something like a Kindle book or a Prime broadcast.
