An excellent episode of the Jenny Beth Show with Dr. Martin and Stacy Washington! I did not get to watch the whole episode as I unfortunately, didn’t have time. I had to skip around to different parts but I heard enough to get the gist of what you guys were trying to argue. In the interest of full disclosure, I come at this discussion as an Independent Moderate. I would describe myself as a social Democrat and a fiscal Republican. I enjoy listening to voices across the political spectrum. So this was right up my alley. Okay, so first off I would agree that left-wing political indoctrination is a big problem in many K-12 schools and colleges. The insertion of the 1619 Project and CRT into school classrooms is a very bad thing for our country. The 1619 Project is anti-American, Afrocentric revisionist history that distorts American history to make it seem like one long tale of unending brutality and oppression and defines our nation by one of its original sins. CRT says we should see everything through a racial lens and America is bad, fundamentally irredeemable nation. In general, American students are often told America is just bad period and we have nothing to be proud of. They are also taught capitalism is evil, oppressive and exploits the poor and the working class. Okay, let’s set the record straight. The United States has many flaws but it is a great country and one of the best places on Earth, I’m blessed to live in. Americans have a greater degree of rights and freedoms than 99% of people on the globe.
These people who hate America so much need to go visit Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Congo, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Sudan, Belarus, Uganda, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, The Philippines, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Nepal, or Sierra Leone and tell me how terrible America is. You’ll be begging to go back to America in 15 minutes flat and singing God Bless America upon returning back to our hallowed shores! I’m well aware of America’s flaws as a nation: political polarization, political corruption, tribalism, wealth inequality, racial division, a broken healthcare education system, crumbling infrastructure, unhealthy food, etc. But despite all that this is one of the wealthiest, most prosperous societies on Earth and the land of opportunity where one can go from being poor to being middle class or even rich if their willing to work hard. They can rise as high as their merits can take them. In America, you can build a good life for yourself from nothing and can completely reinvent yourself. We are also contrary to what your told, one of the least racist, most inclusive nations in the world. As left-wing black sociologist Orlando Patterson said “Despite…being flawed in its race relations, America is now the least racist and most inclusive of all the white majority nations with the greatest legal protections for minorities and it offers more opportunities to black individuals than any nation on Earth including the nations of Africa.” Does racism exist in America? Yes. Do blacks and other racial minorities face social challenges? Sure. But overall, minority groups are doing pretty well for themselves in America.
Systemic racism existed in the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries but it doesn’t exist today. There are no laws that privilege whites over people of color or discriminate against people of color anymore. Same with women, they have full equality in America. While work remains to be done, LGBT people have more rights in America than their brethren in the developing world. Disabled people like myself have civil rights, protection from discrimination, the right to live our lives as we see fit, to get accommodations when we need them in the workplace or in school, and things like cuts in the curb for wheelchairs, brail signs, bus lifts, accessible entrances, etc. In the developing world, LGBT people are socially ostracized, discriminated against, imprisoned, and in some cases executed. Disabled people are neglected and abused. CRT, ethnic studies and gender ideology have NO PLACE in our schools! As a history major in college and history buff all my life I feel very strongly about this. We need to teach our children a balanced, warts and all history of America. Neither whitewashed or all warts. We should teach them that America is a country with dark chapters in its history who nonetheless is always building a more perfect union.
I would agree that Donald Trump warts and all, has come and restored America after Joe Biden’s disastrous Presidency. Much in the way Ronald Reagan came and restored America after Jimmy Carter’s presidency went down in flames. President Trump has gotten America back on track and for the first time in awhile I’m hopeful for America’s future. His list of accomplishments speaks for itself. Just to name a few: banning DEI, banning gender-affirming care for minors, banning Transgender people from women’s sports, closed the Southern border, the Laken Riley Act, the Big Beautiful Bill Act, the mass deportations, made Columbus Day a national holiday, reformed the military, the review of American history museums, sent the National Guard into the cities to fight crime and protect ICE, established the DOGE and the MAHA initiative, and pardoned the January 6th protesters.
I don’t think the Department of Education should be abolished. But should it be reformed? Absolutely! Public education needs a massive overhaul no doubt. As to gender, look, I’m all for gay marriage and LGBTQ+ civil rights. I have no objection at all to people living as who they want and living the way they want. But biology is biology. Transgender people can live as women if that’s what they want but they can never actually be women as while gender presentation can be changed, biological sex can not. Transgender athletes needs their own athletic divisions, leagues and clubs. It is unfair and dangerous to have them competing with biological women. We need third spaces for Trans and gender non-conforming people. Private unisex changing rooms and gender neutral bathrooms are needed for them. They can’t be using the same changing rooms or bathrooms as biological women. There are only two sexes. Non-binary and intersex people are not proof of more than two genders they are anomalies.
