In this short clip from the greatest-ever Star Trek series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Ensign Nog teaches Chief O’Brien about “The Great Material Continuum”, or “The Great River”.

The writers treated it as a joke. And yet it’s true. “You can have anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want.”

When allowed to work, Capitalism meets everyone’s (material) needs. It does this by incentivizing everyone to solve other people’s problems. In this way, Capitalism is the societal-level fulfillment of the Golden Rule.

Watch Nog and learn.
